Recognizing Healing
The Power of Recognizing Healing
Introduction
In John 5, we meet a man who had been lying by the pool of Bethesda for thirty-eight years. He was crippled not just in body but likely in hope as well. Then Jesus walks up to him and asks a simple yet piercing question: "Do you want to be made well?" This question is not just about physical healing but also about spiritual and emotional restoration.
The Man's Response
The man's response to Jesus' question is telling. Instead of giving a simple "yes" or "no," he starts explaining his situation. He tells Jesus about his lack of help and the challenges he faces in getting to the pool. Unknowingly, he is explaining to the Solution why he can't reach the solution.
Our Tendency to Overexplain
Often, we do the same thing. When Jesus asks us what we want Him to do for us, we tend to overexplain, give reasons, and tell stories. We forget that we are speaking to the One who has the power to heal and restore us.
Recognizing Healing
Sometimes, the greatest block to our healing isn't the devil; it's our inability to recognize when healing has stepped into the room. We need to learn to recognize Jesus' presence and power in our lives.
Grace Doesn't Wait
Jesus healed the man anyway, not because his answer was perfect, but because grace doesn't wait for polished prayers. It moves when hearts are tired enough to lean on it.
Conclusion
The story of the man by the pool of Bethesda teaches us about the power of recognizing healing. Jesus' question, "Do you want to be made well?" is an invitation to recognize His presence and power in our lives. May we learn to respond with faith and trust, and may we experience the healing and restoration that only He can provide.
